Welcome to the BT People Awards. At BT, we think it is important to reward our employees who go the extra mile by volunteering their time in the local community for some really worthwhile causes. The award scheme aims to reward these employees with grants of up to £1,000 for the organisation where they volunteer.

The awards are eligible for all BT people across the globe who volunteer within the community in their own time or BT time.

At BT, it is important to continually recognise the important work our people do. Last year we awarded 623 employees with grant amounts which totalled £165,000. BT people volunteer in a variety of different roles from emergency services to charity trustees and school governors. There are ten different categories in this award scheme which reflect the diverse range of volunteering activities which BT people are involved in.

We know that BT people gain a lot from their volunteering activities. Angela Neat said: “I get a great sense of pride to be able to work for a company that supports my voluntary work so much.”

Clifford Parker said: “Being able to manage a group of 30 8-11 year olds makes managing team meetings seem like a doddle.  I have honed my people management skills on the youngsters and I can adapt these for managing others at work to resolve conflict and maintain interest.”

Cheryl Martin said: “I have gained a greater understanding of how other organisations operate and interact; this provides me with an invaluable insight into our business and objectives.”
